Profile Images: Object reference not set to an instance of an object

May 15, 2011 at 10:34 PM

Just upgraded to SharePoint 2010 so I downloaded the new version of SUSHI to upload my profile pictures.

I've put in the correct settings but every time I click validate image names I get this error:

Validating that pictures in source directory

C:\Photos

have a corresponding user profile

error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.r

Hi guys,

Had this same issue when trying to validate image names, made a codeplex account just to post the fix that worked for me, someone should hopefully benefit from this!

After many errors I viewed the event log found the following error:

Cannot open database "SharePoint_Config" requested by the login. The login failed.
Login failed for user '<MyAccount>'

This occurred every time I tried to validate, so I ran sushi as an account that had access to the config database (hold shift > right click sushi > run as different user" and then everything worked fine.

While testing this, <MyAccount> was farm in admin group, UPS admin, local admin on sharepoint server, but just didn't have access to the databases. This lack of database access seems to be why the "Object reference not set to an instance of an object.r" error occurs.
